5. Watermarking

Some encoding applications will permit a watermark to be added to the encoded file. A watermark is a graphic file (usually a bitmap or targa file) that is laid over the top of the video. Many times, this will be used to add a company logo, product name, or insignia to the streaming content. Adjustable parameters of a watermark include the following:

  • scaling—This allows the size of the watermark to be changed in relation to the size of the video window.
  • opacity—With this setting, the watermark may be made completely opaque, and varying degrees of transparency may be added.
  • position—This is the starting point for the placement of the watermark—top right corner, bottom left corner, etc.
  • edge gap—This refers to how far from a particular edge of the video window the watermark will be positioned.
