CHICAGO – August 2, 2005 – Leading carriers and suppliers from around the world will gather in Madrid, Spain, 3-6 October for the International Engineering Consortium's (IEC's) Broadband World Forum Europe 2005.

This four-day educational conference and technology exhibition will focus on global broadband technologies and networks, business drivers, content issues, and markets for senior industry professionals throughout the world.

Telefónica, one of the largest world operators centered mainly on fixed and mobile telephony businesses using broadband as the key tool for development, will serve as the Official Sponsor of the Broadband World Forum Europe, aiding in the planning of the event.

Broadband World Forum Europe conference chairperson, Julio Linares López, executive chairman of Telefónica de España, will welcome attendees during the Monday morning Opening Ceremony Address, and Luis Ezcurra, general manager of marketing and market development at Telefónica Móviles España, will deliver the Wednesday keynote address, "The Challenge of UMTS."

"Telefónica's commitment to broadband in the market, as proven in their mass deployment of ADSL, is truly impressive," said John Janowiak, senior director of the IEC. "Their expertise in voice and data systems will provide a valuable experience to conference attendees, and we look forward to bringing this event to Spain."

"The topical platform coupled with the level of executive speakers and conferees brings a unique flare to the program. The shared international knowledge and experience will guarantee great success of this Forum," said Linares López.

The 2004 program, located in Venice, Italy, reached new heights with over 3,000 registrants from 70 nations and more than 100 carrier companies world-wide filled the exhibition floor and educational sessions.

The growth of the show has lead to the co-location of the WiMAX Global ComForum, a new dedicated educational program covering the business challenges of implementing WiMAX wireless broadband networks for both fixed and wireless access and mobile broadband.

Information on the Broadband World Forum Europe or the WiMAX Global ComForum is available through the IEC Web site (www.iec.org).
